Los Padres Bear Aware, based in Pine Mountain Club, is a non-profit organization currently under the fiscal sponsorship of the BEAR League of Lake Tahoe which actively promotes a peaceful coexistence with black bears in our mountain communities through education and outreach.

WHAT WE DO
The goal of Los Padres Bear Aware (“LPBA”) is to provide a safe environment in which people and bears can coexist in harmony. LPBA encourages people to make smart choices and take responsibility for how we live in bear country, especially during bear season.
Ultimately, LPBA strives to create a beneficial shift in people's attitudes toward bears and other wildlife by replacing fear and ignorance with understanding and respect.
WHO WE ARE
LPBA is an all-volunteer group of residents living in or near Pine Mountain Club, California who are interested in spreading reliable information about bear behavior to others in the community that will promote the idea of living responsibly in bear country. We encourage residents and business owners to conduct themselves in a way that does not attract bears into our community and thereby decreases the chance of a human-bear conflict which can, and usually does, result in a dead bear at the hands of our governmental agencies.
WHAT WE DO
We are committed to educating people on effective ways to deal with the local black bear population in and around our area as well as encouraging more responsible living habits to minimize backyard attractants that lead to unwanted encounters with them. Our outreach consists of community and classroom presentations as well as creating and distributing informational bear literature to the public. LPBA also maintains a call-in “Bear-Line” at 661- 242 -PAWS/ 7297 which is a resource available to the public if they are interested in learning more about how to coexist with bears.
